I woke up to the sound of water running. I hate that.
It seems that a valve under the dining room seat burst and was spraying water. I am not sure how long it was spraying before I woke up, but there was a lot of water on the floor. I opened the door of the motor home to retrieve a mop from my "basement storage" and the ground outside was wet with little puddles all around the motor home. Water was dripping from several places under the motor home.
I have been traveling in the motor home for almost a week. I have charged several restaurant meals and campground fees and in-store purchases on my bank's debit card. I was a bit surprised today when my bank called and told me there was possible fraudulent activity on my card. At first, I assumed the charges were legitimate as I had made charges in several states in the past six days. However, as the lady on the phone recited the charges to me, one jumped out at me as obviously bogus.
Thursday evening, someone charged a night's stay at a Motel 6 somewhere in Virginia. Not only have I not been in Virginia for a year or so, but, if I was, I would not have stayed in any motel. After all, I am traveling in a motor home and am carrying my own bedroom with me! I have no need of motels!
The lady at Bank of America kindly credited the charge to my account.
The U.S. Vote Foundation has launched an online portal that will enable absentee voters to register and request ballots with forms and information customized for each state. The tool went live June 8 for 21 states and the District of Columbia. The remaining states are expected to be included by June 15.
This is a great reference if you live full time in a recreational vehicle.
If you own a vehicle with a GPS or even use a portable GPS system to find your way around the country, you will want to know that all of these devices may soon be illegal to use while driving. The NHTSA is taking aim at GPS and in-car infotainment systems to crack down on distracted driving and the accidents it causes. See http://www.carquoteasap.com/blog/?p=3034 for details.
Remind me to pay my rent! It seems that a man in Titusville, Florida had a disagreement with the campground owner and several of his neigbors. On February 15, the manager evicted him.
Tim Arnold told the manager he wasn't going to leave and went inside the home with his dog and locked the door. "Next thing you know, I'm moving," said Arnold. "I called 911 and I tried to tell them I was going down the highway in my RV and I don't know why."
This is a quick note to let you know I have been discharged from the hospital and am now back in my motor home, enjoying life once again.
My thanks to all the people who took the time to write notes of best wishes and to offer suggestions. It is heartwarming to read all the messages. I can't possibly answer each one individually but I have read each one and I certainly appreciate the kind thoughts.
I just arrived in Florida a few days ago and have enjoyed the first few days of living in the motor home when a new problem arose. I experienced some significant chest pains and decided I had better get checked out. Two or three hours after arriving at the emergency room of a local hospital, I was in an operating room having a coronary catheterization procedure performed.
The doctors and nurses have assured me it is minor procedure, performed dozens of times every day across the country or even across the world. However, it is never minor when it is YOUR body! I must admit, however, that it was a rather easy procedure from my sedated vantage point.
If you have heard the news of this weekend's snow storm followed by power outages in the northeastern U.S., I can confirm it is true. Our house has been without power for about 36 hours now. The power company has advised that some customers may not have power restored until Thursday.
In my case, I have no electricity, Internet service, or traditional telephone service. Luckily, the cell phone service has continued to work without interruption and the 3G wireless modem also connects to a nearby cell tower. As a result, I do have internet service but everything is battery powered. I am limiting my usage in order to conserve the batteries, in case this does stretch into a multi-day outage.
